Your beginning month of 2009 will be so busy that you will need to hit the ground running. You will be very busy, that's for sure! What can you expect in January? Home-related changes will now be possible, sensational romance should sizzle up your evenings, and there will be lots of time for creative projects and for enjoying children. This month even holds the possibility for an exciting career development at the full moon.
So much to do, so little time! Let's get started!
First, as you begin the month, a home or family development may be on your mind. Last month, at the new moon on December 27, you were under sensational aspects for making your home a happier, more comfy place to be. That magnificent trend will continue throughout January, but will be triply strong in January's first week. An entourage of planets will be surrounding Jupiter, planet of good fortune, as he makes his final exit from Capricorn, the sign ruling your solar fourth house of home and property.
In the past year, 2008, you had one of your best years for buying, selling, moving, or renovating your home. If you didn't do any of these things or developed other plans to make your home more inviting or settled, you will get one more opportunity in early January, but you will have to act very quickly!
Jupiter will leave this part of your chart on January 5, but you will still have Mars, the energy planet, along with the Sun and Pluto, in this home-and-family sector. The Sun will stay until January 19, Mars (a very important planet) will stay until February 4, and Pluto will remain here fifteen years! Together all these planets will help you make plans for your living quarters that could become so wonderful, you'll never want to move. I just love the first four days of January, if you can mobilize that quickly to make a move or decision about your living quarters.
If you are in stress over having to possibly lose your home, then immediately call your bank and ask for help on January 2. You have opportunities - use them!
If you need something simple for your home, like a new mattress or couch, look at the items on sale, for you are likely to get precisely what you are looking for.
There is one little problem. Mercury will be retrograde from January 11 to February 1, and this will complicate things if you need to accept delivery of furniture or other large items during this period. It is never wise to purchase anything expensive when Mercury is out of phase or to accept delivery on expensive items either. Knowing this, you will need to order immediately and get a fast delivery in the first week of January. Otherwise, order in the first week of January and ask the store to delay delivery until after February 4.
Why ask for delivery for after February 4 and not February 1, the date Mercury goes direct? You can never work up too close to the start and end dates of a Mercury retrograde period, for those dates will be unstable - much more so than the other Mercury retrograde dates within the period. That means that during this retrograde, for example, the days surrounding January 11 and February 1 would be some of the worst for you to act. Admittedly, the whole month will be something of a mess, so if you want to simply plan your overall strategy and collect prices and estimates, it would be a good way to go.
If you must sell a house during that phase, be prepared for the buyer to present challenges you had not anticipated. For example, the buyer may hire an engineer that turns up an obscure problem that would require a costly repair on your part before the house can be sold. Or, it could be that you learn at the last minute that your buyer cannot qualify for a mortgage, so the house remains unsold. That can be so frustrating - be sure not to count your chickens before they are hatched.
With Mercury retrograde, these types of difficulties work both ways, on the buyer's side and the seller's side, in both positive and negative ways. It is also possible that you may get a second chance to bid on a house even if your first bid was rejected. Or, you may invite a certain buyer back to give you another offer after you have time to think about whether to adjust your price, and if so, by how much. It's a topsy-turvy month where anything is possible and where there aren't hard and fast rules of protocol. If an idea occurs to you, voice it.
As said, after the departure of generous Jupiter - the planet that acts like your kind uncle by always coming with pockets filled with chocolates, pretty gifts, and money, and who always makes life easier - Mars will remain in your home sector to continue to keep your mind focused on what's happening there. With Mercury retrograde, but Mars there, it would be a fine time to clean out closets, make repairs, clean furnishings, and decide on updates you would like to make soon.
At the office, a work-related project should bring good news on January 9. You may be involved with a highly creative or innovative idea that will be lauded by your boss or client at this time, and because this day falls one day prior to the full moon, you'll get a quick answer if you need an approval. This Friday (or the day that comes before) will be a day brimming with good news, so when you get it, take a moment to celebrate! Go out this night!
Your career will take your full attention for another reason. The full moon on January 10 (plus or minus four days) will bring a professional matter to a grand conclusion. This will be a sweet full moon that is full of unexpected developments, all of them positive. Whatever occurs at this time will not diminish your reputation and status - it will add to it. Saturn will be within friendly range too, and will give this full moon a nice stabilizing energy. This shows that whatever occurs should enhance your long-range security as well.
The bigger theme of the month will center on your love life and will begin when Jupiter enters Aquarius on January 5. At the start you won't likely see too much happening, not until month's end. Let's have a look at this new trend in detail. While it will affect you through all of 2009, you'll feel it doubly in January and in February when this trend will be as big as a billboard on Times Square - and twice as bright!
When Jupiter enters Aquarius on January 5 it will be the start of a glorious dawning of a new day. Not since Jupiter was in Libra from September 2004 to October 2005 have you had similar cosmic support on such a massive level to bolster your love life. And back in 2004-2005 there were planets that tried to steal your thunder, including Saturn in Leo, an aspect that could have been a bit of a party pooper. As you see, in the last go-round, you may not have felt the full range of glory that Jupiter is known to bring. Now, it looks like nothing will stop you!
Jupiter is a warm, fiery planet that expresses some of his best energies in fire and air signs. When Jupiter enters Aquarius, an air sign, he will be in a comfort zone. Jupiter will be in a beautiful "trine" position (taken from the word "triangle" - one of the very best aspects that you can ever hope to see). During the whole coming year you will have the planet of good fortune in a perfect position to your Sun, capable of supporting all your aims - and that's big headline news.
Further, Jupiter in this position will help you feel stronger and healthier, and also help you enjoy life more. You may travel quite a bit in 2009 too, an ideal year to plan a major vacation. You will have time to relax, and you won't feel as stressed as you have in the past.
Your bigger news has to do with the blossoming of a romance that could easily become a major focus in the coming months. I am so excited to tell you this, for you've not seen anything quite like this in so long!
When it comes to finding love or enjoying the love you already share with one special person, you will be the sign most blessed in 2009. One planet working alone won't ever be enough - you need more - and at the end of January you will have other planets coming in to work with Jupiter to make this trend even bigger. Indeed, by February you will have the Sun, Neptune, Jupiter, Mars, and a new moon eclipse to get the ball rolling January 26. More about your eclipse in a moment.
First, the Sun and Jupiter will meet over the weekend of January 23-24, an aspect I always call "the luckiest day of the year." Remarkably, these two heavenly bodies will meet in your romantic sector! If you meet someone on one of these days, chances are that you will stay together for a long time. If you want to have a first date with someone you met online, meet in a public coffee shop this weekend, with Saturday being my favorite day for you. With Jupiter in Aquarius, you actually may find "the one" online, for Aquarius rules digital forms.
All in all, when it comes to love, there will be true joy in the relationship and a contagious feeling of optimism. This is a day to circle in gold on your calendar!
If you have been frustrated because you can't seem to find anyone special to date, and if you mumbled to yourself, "It would take a solar eclipse to revive my love life!" well, that's exactly what is about to happen for you!
On the heels of the gorgeous meeting of the Sun and Jupiter will come the powerful friendly solar eclipse, a new moon on January 26.
This solar eclipse will also be in Aquarius, and that new moon will open up a broad new path in regard to romantic matters. This will be your most important time of the month, and possibly of the year. Eclipses bring changes and a much speeded up timetable. If you are single, this eclipse could bring the right person to you.
Sometimes an eclipse will not bring developments at the time it appears but rather one month to the day later, plus or minus five days. If you don't see much happening now, keep your eyes open near February 26.
If your birthday falls on September 29, this eclipse will speak directly to you. This includes those Libras born within five days of this date. The closer your birthday falls to this date, the better. Still, even if you were born at a different time of the sign, you may have other planets in your chart to trigger a dazzling event. You won't have to wait long - just keep your antenna up!
What is so magical about this month is that Jupiter will be orbiting close to the Sun and new moon at eclipse time. Neptune and Mercury will be in this house too, making this part of your chart a hub of activity. After the eclipse arrives, Mars will come in from February 4 until March 15 to push this activity up another level. As you see, the first three months of 2009 will be all about building a rich and satisfying personal life.
Another eclipse in Aquarius is due on August 5, 2009, and will arrive as a full moon lunar eclipse, so more changes are on the way later.
Last year there was an eclipse on February 6, 2008, (new moon) and August 16 (full moon), so one of those days may have proved important to you, too. I mention these other two eclipses so that you can see this is part of a trend, not a one-shot event.
Eclipses often point to complete transformations, so if someone, or something, is taken away, try to see the bigger picture. They look for weak links, so if an eclipse finds one, it can sometimes feel a little jarring. (I'm not thinking it will find one, but if it does, you are prepared.)
Eclipses never deliver their whole news all at once, as more often it takes another six months to fully understand things. In that time, sometimes we have to keep the door open for new things to come. With an eclipse so beautifully angled to your Sun, this eclipse is almost certainly due to work in your favor.
Once Mars moves over the precise degrees of this eclipse at 6.5 degrees of Aquarius, next month on February 12 you could easily see a development. Pay close attention to this date and the dates surrounding it. It's all for good. Eclipses do move up timetables, and they are enormous motivators for us to move forward. And did I add that they also bring a measure of surprise? Sure - they are that and more. There is nothing to fear. With Jupiter protecting you in your house of true love, you should do well.
This strong energy due to move into your fifth house will also affect you with regard to children and creativity, as both are ruled by this house. Let's look at each separately.
In regard to children, if you want to have a baby, this eclipse may bring on a pregnancy a lot sooner than you expected. Eclipses keep us flexible, so go with the flow. Whether you want to have a child or already have one or more, Jupiter in this house will protect your present and future children during 2009.
This should be very comforting news. If applying to a new grade school or to college, your child should do well and enjoy the new classroom he or she will be attending this spring or fall.
If you are going through a divorce, keep this thought in mind - one or all of your children will be highly protected and go through this period in better shape than you suppose. Of course, you will want to monitor the situation, but don't be frantic. Have your children see a carefully chosen professional therapist if you feel it would help them - that is always a good idea - but over the long view, your children have excellent prospects for bouncing back.
If you have had problems communicating with an older child, this year you should see a major improvement in your relationship. There is nothing like the healing power of Jupiter to make things better.
If you don't have children but work with children at your job, perhaps because you are a teacher or work with children's programming, as two examples, you will benefit, too. The types of projects you work on should be right up your alley, and your progress will be steady this year.
In terms of creative projects, rarely have you seen anything like the fabulous aspects that are due in coming weeks. The meeting of the Sun and Jupiter on January 23-24, the eclipse, and the overwhelmingly positive planetary energy in February will blow you away. If ever there were a time to show your work and get approvals for a truly important new project, it will be soon, in early February.
Things will be held up a little due to Mercury retrograde, but once you get to February, dear Libra, there will be no stopping you!
Most romantic days for you, dear Libra: January 3-4, 7-8. 11-12, 23-27, and 30-31.
Summary
You have a wonderful outlook for 2009, dear Libra, and so much of your happiness will begin this month! There is so much to say, it is almost impossible to know where to start, so let's take things in order.
January begins with a rare opportunity to do some last minute changes with your home or other property, whether you plan to make a big initiation (to buy a house) or a small one (to stock up on new linens). You may find a new roommate, find a great piece of furniture at the flea market, or invite in the painters to change the color of your living room.
Jupiter, the great planet of good fortune, is about to leave your fourth house of home, property, and family, but before that happens in January's first few days, you may be able to make last minute changes. Mars will help you complete repairs and renovations during the rest of the month. If you reorganize things, you'll have much more space and feel calmer, too.
When good fortune Jupiter enters your house of true love on January 5, he will brighten your house of true love for a full year. This is headline news in astrological circles, for Jupiter has not been in this area of your chart since 1997.
You should see a big pickup in your social life soon. If you are single and looking for love, get ready - you will be meeting many new people in the weeks to come. Of all the signs, you, dear Libra, will be the most favored for love in 2009. Make love a priority in the coming year, for truly, the universe has made you one for love. Circulate and ask friends to make introductions. You may find this odd to hear, but co-workers will be another wonderful source for introductions.
If you are attached, you will have more fun together. You will be able to travel this year, and if so, your trip would be unusual in some way.
You will also find that children are a big source of happiness. If you have children, they will make you proud, and they may even teach you something that you will hold in your heart forever. Yes, we can learn from our children, and it doesn't matter if they are big or little - often their words have weight!
You may feel the effect of this new social trend immediately, at the solar eclipse January 26, but more likely next month, because at that time, Mars will join a crowd of planets in this same romantic sector. That should make Valentine's Day one for the record books!
Mercury will be retrograde from January 11 to February 1. As a result, you may begin to think about a former sweetheart and may even want to call that person, as Mercury will be retrograde in your romantic sector, too. What will happen is up to you, but you do have a good chart for rekindling love.
Alternatively, you may have to return to an old question that you never quite solved. No matter - Mercury retrograde helps us tie up loose ends. With Jupiter near, you would be able to find new solutions. By next month you will know your own mind and be able to move forward with vigor in your personal life.
A career matter will culminate at the full moon, January 10, plus or minus four days. It could surprise you in some way, but in a good way. You may be offered a promotion or new job, but with Mercury retrograde, it would be best to ask lots of questions and delay any final decision until next month.
If you work in a creative field as an artist, illustrator, designer, musician, composer, actor, stylist, writer, poet, or in another artistic discipline, Jupiter in Aquarius will help you see unimaginable breakthroughs this year. Apply yourself with earnest effort and you will find the world beating a path to your door. You seem to be working with computers now, with new software, or in a new digital medium. Perhaps you are about to unveil a new website or blog, or use new software to create your music or designs.
I never mentioned that good luck Jupiter will team up with imaginative Neptune later in the year and they will orbit together from May to December - that's a wonderful surprise I will tell you about in a future forecast. Suffice it to say that this year you will find yourself at precisely the right place at the right time, and it's all so very good for you! If there were ever a year to put your stamp of individuality on things, this is it!

Comcast Cable TV now features me (Susan Miller) on their "On Demand" channel. If you're a Comcast Cable subscriber and already have their On Demand package, you can see me deliver your forecast each week for free.
