Virgo Horoscope for September 2010

What a difference this birthday month will be over others you've experienced since 2007. I recall that last year in September, I had written that I had never seen so many difficult aspects squeezed into one little envelope of time. If you are a Virgo born at the very end of your sign, say, near September 16-22, then you certainly know that last September was no friend of yours.

The areas of the greatest pressure on you over the past three years had to do with your health, heavier responsibilities you were accepting on the job, and the big one, a major relationship woe that reared its head at some point in the last three years. If your birthday falls early in Virgo, in August, you found the fall of 2007 and early months of 2008 hardest. If you were born, say, near September 7, you found the second half of 2008 to be your challenging time. Late-born Virgos are dealing with certain relationship issues now. Astrology is the study of mathematical cycles, so when Saturn inched over the degrees of your Sun (a period that lasts approximately nine months within that three-year span), you struggled with some harsh challenges.

Yet Saturn has method to his madness, and the past few years were likely the most productive of your life. Although many elements of your life were being tested, what remained after cosmic storms have blown through your life would remain in place a long time, possibly forever. Those elements have been tested and proved strong - you can rely on those people and elements to support you In the future.

Since 2007, think back - you chose to take on one or two major responsibilities that you may not have been sure you could handle, but did, with flying colors. Your personal growth skyrocketed as you filled those new shoes. Looking back, you are a different person than the one that you were back in mid-2007 - so much more sophisticated, poised, and confident. You've battled a few monster dragons and not only survived, you flourished. You are now new and improved, better able to handle anything life throws your way.

One relationship may still be sticky for you if you are a late-born Virgo (September 17-21) due to the opposition of Uranus to your Sun. Once you get past March 11, you will see even the toughest relationship either improve or you will get the courage to finally end it without a single regret.

You were not only doing battle with one planet, Saturn, but another big powerhouse planet, Uranus. It was like being jumped by two thugs in a dark ally at the same time. It would have taken a yeoman's effort to measure up to Saturn's demands alone, but to have Uranus throwing punches at you as well, that was an enormous amount of pressure to handle. Some Virgos suffered health difficulties with all they had to handle. You are a sensitive sign, so this was not one bit easy.

August birthdays, and those with birthdays that fall from September 1 to 10, didn't have this problem as those members of their sign were challenged by Saturn and Uranus in very different times, so the challenges came separately, reaching as far back as 2003 when Uranus first entered Pisces. Late-born Virgos (September 11-21) didn't have that luxury, being bombarded with tests from both planets at once. No matter - you are in a much better position now, having seen Saturn leave last July 21, and by early March, Uranus will move on, too.

The universe does not want you to set your watch, put up your feet, and take a nap until better days are due. The planets want us to learn something and to become stronger, kinder people after having weathered these gale force winds. My mother who taught me astrology always said these planets create "character building" episodes in our lives, and help us come face to face with who we are, and ask us who we want to become. Those who accept the challenges that are hurled at them in life rather than shirking inevitably become all the better for it.

Now you enter September, look in the mirror, and see a new person. The new moon this year on September 8 won't have the heavy presence of either Saturn or Uranus, and that'll be true for all Virgo birthdays. After a new moon arrives, the actions you take in the two weeks that follow have the power to affect your new birthday year, spanning 12 months. This time you have a real shot at getting many of the main elements of your life as you want them to be.

I am especially encouraged by the fact that Mercury, your ruler, will be in perfect angle to Pluto from your house of new love, children, and creativity, showing that all these areas will shine for you with just a little effort on your part.

This new moon will help you form new relationships. I am very encouraged that Pluto, now in your house of true love (new love), will turn direct after having been retrograde since May 31. This will bring a big shot of energy to your dating life.

If you are attached, good fortune Jupiter will move back to your opposite sign of Pisces the following day, September 9, and Jupiter will remain in your serious commitment house until January 22, 2011, allowing you to align with people who are truly good for you and deserving of your trust.

If you are attached but have not been able to conceive a baby, Pluto will help with that too after September 14. From then until April 2011, your chances of a pregnancy will improve (whether you are the one to carry the baby or are the woman's partner), so keep those dates in mind.

What if you want to reconcile with someone from your past? Can you? Yes, in life that is always possible to try if you still love the person. Right now Mercury, your ruler, is retrograde and causing you to look back to earlier days and reflect on what happened. You can make new associations too, and I would like you to be open to those as well.

If your birthday falls on September 8 or within four days of this date, you will feel this new moon more than most, and your coming year will be filled with fresh starts. Exciting! You really are on the verge of a whole new era, dear Virgo. Your health will improve; your outlook will be brighter than it has been over the past three years. For sure, you'll feel your old optimism return full force very soon now, if it has not already. Saturn always leaves a material or spiritual gift after his trial is over, as thanks for dealing with his rigorous tests, so you are due to receive that soon, too.

Mercury, planet of intellect and communication - the planet responsible for Virgo's intelligence, analytical, and communications skills - is retrograde as the month begins. That will give September a slow start. You may be fine with that - starting slow in a let's-get-back-to-work month like September is nice!

You will have to be sure not to sign any contracts or agree verbally to anything new, as the world will still be in flux and your judgment will be off. It's also not wise to buy anything expensive, and certainly not an electronic gadget, computer, or machine until after September 12. Actually, give a day or two beyond that if possible. The exception is if your present computer, phone, or other electronic breaks or is lost. This is very possible - keep track of things! If this should happen, you may have no choice but to buy a new one.

My young daughter, Chrissie called to advise me that her friends are "totally freaked out" by Mercury retrograde and that I should set the record straight, that it's "not tragic, just annoying." Chrissie is right. I really don't want to make you crazy about this aspect, but just to calmly watch it. This time Mercury is retrograding in Virgo, so you will be feeling this Mercury retrograde more directly than most. When things start to happen, you just have to laugh and throw up your hands. We are all in the same boat.

I have the moon in Virgo and I have had a million delays and changes. Silly me, I booked a flight on the same night I am to appear at Henri Bendel's in New York on September 10. Now I KNEW about that appearance since last February, and was not thinking when I booked a flight to Nantucket to attend my good friend Rose's wedding a few days later. I was thinking, gee, I have not taken a vacation - I will take an extra day or two. The Jet Blue attendant reminded me that I was into $200 in airline fees. "Yes, yes," I sighed, "I know." I knew better! It's my own fault. Gosh, I of all people should know that when Mercury retrogrades we become forgetful of details. I have a friend who says, if a problem can be fixed with money, it's not really a problem. Move on - it's not the end of the world. You know? He's right.

Also just last night my computer froze while writing Leo. I didn't feel like putting on a nicely ironed outfit, applying my lipstick, and hailing a taxi to the Apple store at 11 PM on a Saturday night for urgent help, but I did go. I was so glad they are open 24/7. My Mac NEVER freezes but they fixed it in a flash and I lost no data at all. Ha, ha, I tweeted about it later (@astroloyzone). Chrissie called and said her Mac laptop froze, too, while she was doing her DJ gig Saturday night at the very same time - and it also never happens to her! In both cases, we had software conflicts that caused the freeze. Weird eh? Mercury retrograde is like having gremlins in the house. They always come out.

Money seems to be a sore spot this month, due partly to the arrival of Saturn in your second house of income, which is keeping your income contained, and Mars, which is forcing expenses up. Whenever you have Saturn in the second house (it only happens two or thee times in a lifetime for about two years) it's always hard to get big raises, but since you have a new moon here in early October, next month I will tell you to try anyway. It's always worth a shot. Saturn does have method in his madness, though, in that he is hoping to teach you to cut back on waste, to do more with less, and to find ways to wisely control your cash flow.

If you change jobs, you are likely to face the same limiting circumstances, with employers being very budget conscious and hard to convince that you are worth more. (You are worth more, and there is no arguing that, but you cannot squeeze blood from a rock.) This atmosphere will keep up until October 2012, so if you do switch jobs, hopefully you will like the salary well enough to live at that level for at least that long.

The good news is that once Mars leaves Libra on September 14, you should see instant relief to the high level expenses you've been experiencing. Mercury will go direct near that date too, so in all, life is due to be brighter.

Your best area of growth financially will emanate not from salary, but from other types of income, such as commissions, royalties, fees, and so forth - performance-based or fairness-based money that seems to be computed with some sort of formula or preparations you made (like insurance). You will see the truth of that from late January through early June 2011.

In your eighth house, Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, can bring you good fortune with that kind of income. Jupiter spent some time in this house from this past June through August, and will leave September 9. You may already feel the past three months showed signs of a financial renaissance. I hope so, but if not, better news is on the way. Jupiter will be due back in January and have more time then to help you increase your bank account.

Actually, you may get some good financial news this month too, at the full moon September 23, plus or minus four days. This full moon falls very close to Jupiter and Uranus, so you may not be expecting the money you see, for it could appear out of thin air! This full moon will fall at 0 degrees Aries, a very energetic and forceful degree that seems to be connected with assertive business enterprise, so perhaps you are looking for venture capital. If so, you will get the answer back from an investor at this time and news could be really good!

No matter what, this money you see on or within four days of September 23 would be a one-time bundle of cash. It may arrive in the form of a court or divorce settlement, bonus, commission, back child support, advance, line of credit, mortgage or revised refinancing plan, insurance payout, prize winning - you get the idea. Don't buy too many lotto tickets, though, for money will come from a place you're not expecting. I don't want you to spend too much on those!

I wish I could say you will be stress-free when it comes to money and relationships, but alas, this is a bit of a schizophrenic month, with the planets playing all sorts of tricks by sending us all a few mixed messages.

One of my favorite days of the month for you will be September 18, when Jupiter and Uranus will combine in conjunction in your marriage and partnership house and send you a magnificent surprise from a partner, in love or in business. This person really cares about you and protects your interests, and it shows. This is a very rare and encouraging four-star day, my favorite of the month.

When it comes to relationships, as said, if you are attached, you are moving in the right direction. Jupiter will move back into your commitment and marriage sector on September 9, to stay until January 22, 2011.

Still, when Uranus in Pisces opposes the Sun in Pisces on September 21 (the last time these two planets will duke it out in Virgo-Pisces in your lifetime), this is a hard day. Virgos born on that day or close to it may get an electrical jolt from a close partner, someone with whom you are closely aligned in business or in love.

If you were born at the end of your sign, September 17-22, the full moon of September 23, falling at 0 degrees of Aries, so close to your Sun in an out-of-sign conjunction, may bring a partnership development too, but it may not be a good one. I am not happy about the position of Uranus to your Sun, for it could bring on shocking news or the tearing away of two people, you and your former partner.

Whatever you hear on this day, September 21, could be the final straw in a long and turbulent relationship. If this should happen, the break would be very swift. (The partner named in this aspect would be different from the one named above on your glorious day, September 18). See how you feel. If your relationships are in fine shape, you'll know it, but if not, you will know that, too. These types of aspects test the strength of things, so that's why it will be revealing in a high contrast way. If something is wrong, it is an instantly separating aspect, and the episode won't bode well for you to stay together in the future.

What about you if you are single? With Mars and Venus traveling so close in your house of love from September 14 to October 28, you have lovely aspects to meet and fall in love. Consider taking a trip into the country in the second half of September, perhaps to enjoy the changing season. Just a short drive or train ride to a setting less than 200 miles away should do the trick to summon Cupid to you.

Your most romantic dates will be September 4, 7, 8, 11-12, 16-18, and 26.

Saturn will conjunct the Sun in Libra on September 30, usually an annual event day that is either depressing or that brings strenuous, arduous work conditions. The Sun represents fire, and Saturn, ice, so you see what I am looking at here.

Because the two will meet in your income and resources house, it is also likely that on September 30 you may see a large loss or big expense. This may come up immediately or arrive sometime later, due to actions taken on this day. This is not a day to take any sort of financial risk. Keep your health up to par in late September too, and make sure you see a dentist early in the month to be sure everything is fine, as teeth and bones come under Saturn's domain.

Summary

This is birthday month, and fittingly, the universe has a present for you. It comes in the form of a new moon in Virgo, September 8, and will help you finally lift off important plans that may have stalled earlier this year. Mars and Venus will be beautifully angled to Neptune, so artistic or creative projects would go exceedingly well. No matter what's on your to-do list, try to initiate your actions for after your guardian planet, Mercury, turns direct on September 12. Love will be in the air too, for Pluto, having been retrograde for months, will awaken on November 14 and push your social life to new heights. The holiday season is coming and you seem perfectly positioned to meet someone special at one of those gatherings.

The very best part of the month will come mid-month, for as you get deeper into September near the end, planets will begin to clash, causing difficulties to arise. You will need to be sure footed as you go along, so do your homework and take nothing for granted. This is a month of intense highs and lows, so let's look closer.

Your expenses have been high, but it also appears your income has been picking up too and for that, you're grateful. You may get a generous cash birthday gift, or news, an insurance payout, tax refund, or approval for student financial aid, as examples of possibilities. Once Mars leaves your second house of earned income on September 14, you'll see costs drop, and you'll feel more in control of your finances. Saturn is still in your earned income house, though, so you may find employers to be tightfisted, and changing jobs won't likely produce a different situation.

You'll need to be careful with spending until you get past the difficult conjunction of the Sun and Saturn on September 30. This will be a tough day when a financial obligation will come due and must be satisfied. You may have to do some intense juggling to do so, so try to anticipate what might come up later in the month. A creditor will not be in a generous mood - he will want to be paid, or else. It's also possible that things will manifest differently, that you see a loss immediately or later, as a result of an action or decision made on this day. This is no day to sign papers or to schedule major talks.

A big shot of good financial news will come just prior to this conjunction, at the full moon September 23. A fat check may come in to you outside of earned income, and it seems to arrive just in the nick of time. For now, hang on to most of it - you may suddenly need it later!

One of your favorite days this month involving a collaborator or partner will be September 17-18, when Jupiter, planet of happiness, will conjunct surprise-a-minute Uranus. Your spouse, sweetheart, business collaborator, agent, manager, publicist, or other business partner may now thrill you in ways you'd never imagine. On this day, someone close will take very good care of you.

Yet in a month that will hold nothing but black-and-white contrasts, a tough day follows on September 21. It seems like a different partner will show a troubling side of his or her character. This episode could be serious enough for you to feel you must leave this person for good, but doing so will leave a scar that will take time to heal.

Single? There will be ups and downs for you, too. Pluto, now in your house of new love, will turn direct on September 14 (good for the future) but will argue with other planets (bad). Whenever Pluto is in harsh angles to other planets, there's a danger of feeling manipulated. As a Virgo, you don't like having to push back, but near September 23 you may have not much choice. Finances will likely be the bone of contention. See how you feel - you will know what you need to do. Generally, though, this day is good for finances. It may just be that someone will ask you to jump through hoops to get the money you deserve.

Dates to Note:

The new moon in Virgo September 8 will help you lift off matters dearly important to you in the weeks to come.

However, Mercury will be retrograde in Virgo, a holdover from last month (August 20). Wait until Mercury regulates its orbit on September 12 before making any key decisions.

When Mars leaves Libra, September 13, your expenses will drop and you will find managing money to be easier.

Travel to nearby spots will bring fun from mid-month through October, possibly to view fall foliage. Start making plans!

A partner could delight and surprise you on September 17 or 18, quite unexpectedly.

Yet only a few days later, a partner (different or the same person) may be very difficult on September 21.

The full moon September 23 plus four days could bring a financial decision or matter to climax.

If you were born September 17-23, you still have Uranus opposed to your Sun, and so partners are still very volatile and quick to anger or to act strangely.

Watch for possible loss of profit or personal items on the month's most deflating day, September 30, due to Saturn conjunct the Sun.

Your most romantic dates will be September 4, 7, 8, 11-12, 16-18, and 26.
