Scorpio Horoscope for August 2010

Like everyone else of every sign, you will feel undulating waves beneath your boat this month as planets wage war with one another. You are in an enviable position, however, because the rogue planets in question will all be in cardinal signs, and as a fixed sign, you won't be in the center of the fray. Still, your ruler, Pluto, will take a pivotal role in all that goes on, so you will likely notice tension in the air.

Keep in mind that pushing VIPs and others to respond to you this month won't be wise. Even if you feel calm and in control, it doesn't mean others will feel that way, too. Chances are, the people you are dealing with will be under enormous pressure, and it will be no time for you to issue an ultimatum.

Do you remember the time when you were little and went into the kitchen to ask your mother for more allowance, just when the steak was on fire and the potatoes were burning? Your mother, as she was fanning the flames to douse them, kept saying to you, "Not now! We can't talk now! Can't you see my kitchen is on fire?" As a child, you probably thought it was as good a time as any to negotiate to get your fair allowance. In time you learned that good timing was the secret to everything in life. Keep that point in mind in August!

The toughest days of the month will arrive on August 6 and 7, when a cardinal grand cross will appear in the sky. In order to have a grand cross you need four planets at 90 degrees from one another, forming a square box, with no less than two sets of planets opposed to each other. We have that in spades, with ten squares and seven oppositions. Mama mia! The squabbling planets include the heavy hitters: Pluto, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mars, plus the transiting moon in Cancer.

These planets will be on an epic rampage and all the planets named will be in cardinal signs - Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn - all within five degrees of each other. We have never seen anything like this!

Coincidentally, Mars, your secondary ruler, will journey to 5 degrees of Libra on August 6 and set off the message of the June 26 eclipse. Can you imagine? Mars will schedule this action on the very same day as the cardinal cross appears in the sky, giving this configuration extra power and punch.

If you did not notice any news the time of the June 26 lunar eclipse, you might hear something within four days of August 6. That eclipse was in Capricorn, lighting your house of communication, agreements, and short travel, so the eclipse was to trigger something involving these areas. For example, you may have been designing a new website or blog, reworking your Facebook page, or designing a Smartphone app. Circle these two dates - August 6 and 7 are due to be wild cards in every interpretation of the word.

Areas of your chart that rule attitude, opinion, and perception will be touched by this cardinal cross configuration too, as will your houses of work, health, and confidential matters. All these houses are considered somewhat weak houses of the chart, so I don't feel you will be overly affected by all that goes on, not unless you have planets (or a rising sign) in early degrees of a cardinal sign - that is, Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn. I do feel that the events of this month will clarify your feelings to the extent that you may adopt a completely new perspective on an old situation or dilemma.

A cardinal cross brings a lot of energy, and although some may see a crisis develop, others will have joyous news. In times like these, events are pushed to either end of the spectrum. Errors will get corrected, secrets will come out, and everyone will feel more enlightened.

You may see a change when a person you've employed quits. Or, you may notice some petty antics among your co-workers. I want to be careful when I suggest this, because there is only a possibility that this will happen, but politically some co-workers could be out of control. The planets will be in a very disagreeable mood in the first half of August, and co-workers could easily act like people running from a burning ship, desperate to pile into the lifeboat, no matter what it takes. When people's security is at stake, they can act quite desperate. Co-workers will do anything to distract you so that they can be sure to elbow you out of the way.

As long as you are aware of this you will be able to protect yourself. Actually, your reputation and future success will not be affected. In hindsight, you may view the co-workers in question as completely pathetic. Keep your head high, and your eyes open wide.

This month a family member or friend may be infirm and you may need to help that person. You need to keep your own health strong, as a lot will be going on and many people will be depending on you. At times life could feel draining, but you are a strong sign, and as said at the start of your report, you actually have the advantage this month, so you should have no serious worries.

You have wanted to set your career blazing, but this month you may not know how to proceed or which direction to take to make that happen. The new moon on August 9 will help you decide, possibly by bringing a surprise offer to investigate. Any job you begin to interview for in August would be top-level and come with considerable power and responsibility. It certainly would not be a lateral move.

Because this new moon will be in Leo, your new position would most likely be in the entertainment field, in the media, or involve teaching or education. The luxury goods market will also be an outstandingly lucky industry for you, too. If you work in the arts, Neptune's orbit is within range, so chances are, you'll be at the right place at the right time and ready to show off just how creative you can be.

There are reasons you should not press any decisions yet. Until Mars moves into Scorpio on September 14, you need to remain in a planning stage. Scorpio is a very meticulous sign, so you will want to carefully get all your ducks in a row. August will give you the time you need to prepare. Set your sights on September 14 as the time you will "let rip."

There is another reason to hang back. Mercury will be retrograde from August 20 to September 12. As you see, Mercury's orbit will dovetail perfectly with your plans to tear out of the gate once Mars enters Scorpio on September 14. You are very fortunate that these days are fitting together so seamlessly.

When Mercury retrogrades, it truly is a time to watch and wait, not to sign contracts, make agreements, or shop for anything expensive. You will always feel the slowdown that a Mercury turning retrograde will bring far before the technical onset date (in this case, August 20). This time you will feel the slowdown all month, beginning August 1.

Since Mercury will retrograde in your house of friendship, you may enjoy this phase, for Mercury will put you in touch with many friends from your past, some of whom you've not seen in a long time. You will have a little more time to yourself to kick back, and that's precisely what you should do!

Because you will be motivated to advance your career, you might want to arrange lunch with several colleagues you used to work with in the past, for they too will likely be quite helpful.

The only exception to the rule of "never accept a job with Mercury retrograde" would be if you accept it from someone you used to work with, for you would be continuing a thread begun long ago. As an example, if your old boss has started a new business and wants you to work with her there, you can accept without any fear that results would be disastrous. See what comes up. You are moving into the most critical part of the year for career success, so be confident, dear Scorpio. Your time to shine is coming.

With so many important things cooking on so many burners, you will want a fun evening out to look forward to, and you'll have it on the ultra-romantic full moon, August 24.

This full moon will fall in Pisces at 1 degree and will be as tender and poetic as you could ever imagine. This one is truly perfect! I love that Pluto will send greetings to this full moon, for it means you'll be transported to another place of the mind and heart. You may even get a chance to take a quick trip to a pretty setting, near the sea or in the mountains, with someone you care about very much - go!

If you were born on October 24, you will have a doubly happy experience.

Just a few days prior, on August 20, Mars, your ruler, will meet with Venus in the most private corner of the sky. A blind date may work out well on this date, but be careful - your new partner may not be available. You may or may not know this, so be careful. If your partner is tied to another, this alliance won't end well.

You are coming up on a very romantic phase, so be optimistic! In September, when Mars moves into Scorpio on September 14 until October 28, and Jupiter, the giver of good luck, moves into your fifth house of true love, you will be in a perfect position to find new love. In fact, you will have to fend off admirers with a fly swatter! This will be true whether you are male or female - all Scorpios will benefit. Lucky you! So if things seem a little "off" in August, they won't during the rest of the year. Start by updating your looks - you'll be stepping out soon!

Your best romantic aspects this month will include: August 14-15, 20 (wild card, could go either way, but will go well if the person is available), and the full moon on August 24, plus or minus four days.

Summary

Near the impending cardinal cross configuration on August 6 and 7, watch your back. The area of concern will be work projects, health, and people working behind the scenes.

The planets will be in a very disagreeable mood in the first three weeks of August, and co-workers will act like people running from a burning ship, desperate to pile into the lifeboat, no matter what it takes. When people's security is at stake, they can act quite desperate. Co-workers will do anything to distract you so that they elbow you out of the way and jump into that safe little lifeboat, especially if you are making a beeline for it, too. As long as you are aware of this impending "kill or be killed" atmosphere, you will be able to protect yourself.

You have been working hard toward making a name for yourself but may have wondered why things weren't quite clicking into place yet. The answer is that you needed a new moon in your tenth house of honors to bring you a lucky break. Now you will have just that on August 9.

Watch for an intriguing conversation to come up concerning your career in the days that follow that new moon. You may get an offer that you will want to investigate. The opportunity you find may be in the entertainment industry or involving the cultural arts. That new moon is in Leo, the sign that rules this area of life. Industries that cater to children also glitter for you, including teaching, children's TV programming, toys, books and magazines, clothing, and other child-oriented areas.

Neptune's prominence will help you make a strong, positive impression with an artistic proposal or creation. In other instances however, Neptune can also sometimes bring confusion, so don't be tempted to embellish or dramatize the offer in your mind afterward as you think about discussions. If you aren't absolutely sure about a certain point, ask, but don't fill in blanks with assumptions. You may be tempted to do so!

The full moon on August 24 will highlight your love life in the most loving, tender way. All Scorpios will be included - single, dating, or in a firmly established relationship. This full moon should bring you quite a memorable episode. Neptune will cozy up close to that moon making it particularly dreamlike, and there is a good chance you'll learn more about the feelings of the person you've been dating.

If you have not been dating, you may have a blind date with someone who is quite special on or very near August 20. However, because the love planets Mars and Venus will conjoin in your behind-the-scenes sector, be sure the person you meet is truly available. Find out, and if not, flee. Although you may think this relationship could be the exception to the rule, it's not. With Neptune playing such a big role, someone may be pulling the wool over your eyes.

If you are married, this full moon will help you rekindle the fires of love, and you may even decide to have a baby soon. If you've been working on a creative project, you will be finishing it up within four days of this full moon that will be so encouraging for creativity.

With Pluto so friendly, you may decide to travel to the seashore (as indicated by the full moon in water sign Pisces), which would be a terrific idea for the week of August 21-28. The Sun will be in Virgo from August 23 and will work hard to give extra oomph to your social life in the coming four weeks. With Mercury about to turn retrograde in your friendship sector on August 20 until September 12, you'll be able to reconnect with many old pals. Doing so will be easy and fun, so look up someone you've not seen in a very long time.

Dates to Note:

In your career, the August 9 new moon will bring opportunity. If you are in a creative job, Neptune, planet of inspiration, will bring you an outstanding opportunity to shine.

If you do work in a less artistic type of position, you must be on guard that you are not being sold a bill of goods. Neptune has another side - to obscure facts. Ask a lot of questions.

Mercury will be retrograde from August 20 to September 12, but miscommunications will be possible all month. Take your time assessing any career offers.

If you get an offer from an old boss, you can accept, even though Mercury is retrograde. Mercury in this mode likes to see you go back to the past to find ways to do more in the future.

Keep an eye on co-workers who will want you to think they are trustworthy but are not. Stay on guard during the first three weeks, for desperate people are dangerous.

With Mercury going backward in your friendship sector, you will reconnect with many people from your past. One may have a clue to the future.

If single, August 20 might be a day when you meet someone new and intriguing, but make absolutely sure this person is truly available. Find out the back story.

The full moon on August 24, plus four days, could be wildly romantic and social. No matter how busy your career is, make time for love.

August 26 should be an outstanding day, when your ruler, Pluto, will send a golden beam to the mighty Sun. VIPs will favor you.

Go on vacation August 21-28 if you like. You need a little time off - this would be your best time to go.

Best romantic dates: August 24, hands down. Add a plus or minus four days.

Also: August 14-15, 20 (wild card, could go either way, but will go well if the person is available), and the best day, the full moon of August 24, plus or minus four days.

This charity is dear to my heart. As you may already know, in my past, I have been through two harrowing surgeries to correct a birth defect that involved excessive bleeding on my left leg. In the first surgery, at age 14, I was in the hospital for eleven months, and the second time, in 1992, I was in for eight months. During all my surgeries, so far in life I have I received a total of 38 blood transfusions.

I am fortunate - all the blood I received was wholesome and untainted, and because of that, I am alive today. In the early days of the disease, when the medical community was still learning how to properly test donated blood for AIDS, some hospital transfusion recipients got AIDS. Among the most notable was Elizabeth Glaser, who contracted the disease from receiving a blood transfusion after giving birth. Before she died at a young age, she became an effective AIDS activist and raised quite a bit of awareness for the disease. Most of us know people who are no longer among us who have fallen victim to this disease. More work needs to be done. Being a very lucky girl, I will always try to find ways to say thank you to the world, and to God, for protecting me. As you see, AIDS is a charity close to my heart. Please come and help me raise quite a bit of money for this charity!

So mark the date - the evening of September 10 in New York City. Henri Bendel has planned quite an array of sparkling events for that evening - all very unique and fun - and I am only one small part of their activities. If you are not familiar with Henri Bendel you are in for a treat! The store itself is housed in a beautiful jewel of a landmark building that's small and very elegant. It is my very favorite store to buy on-trend fashion handbags, scarves, sunglasses, jewelry, and makeup. Bendel's specializes in accessories and beauty only, so come with your list to get ready for fall!

Congratulations to author Derek Blasberg for his cool new book "Classy."

I have been so busy lately that it's been hard to sit down to read a book. Still, when I heard that Derek Blasberg had recently written "Classy" and it was hitting high notes at the New York Times, I knew instantly I wanted to read it. Derek grew up in St. Louis, but graduated from New York University with a major in Dramatic Literature and Journalism.

Anyone familiar with the downtown, uber-hip scene in New York City will soon hear about Derek. He is one of the cool, young arbiters of taste here in the same way that creative director Joe Zee at Elle magazine has become. (If you watch The City on TV, you know Joe.) Derek edits a regular column at Style.com, so you get the picture.

This is an ultra-modern book of etiquette aimed at a modern young woman born into an age where things are changing at the speed of light. With so much new technology to enjoy and discover, and social networking changing the way we think and communicate, questions of what's right, what's wrong are inevitable - and yet surprisingly tough to sort out. When is a skirt too short? When, or if, is it OK to answer a cell phone at a meeting? What about breaking up a romance - what are the new rules? On Facebook, how can you avoid being a victim of TMI (too much information) versus just being friendly? Derek Blasberg tackles it all.

His chapters are written in such a compelling way, curiosity leads you to wander in, and once there, you'll find you stay there. I first opened the book to this chapter, "Some Notes on New Places: Whether you're crossing the street or crossing the ocean, it's good to keep a few things in mind when you've changed your location." How can you not read on?

Yet Derek never tricks you - his chapter heads deliver the goods he promises, which is more than I can say for some tabloid magazine blurbs these days. Derek's advice is substantial, very honest, and always thought-provoking. Even when his advice is delivered in humorous form, which is frequently, he manages to make solid sense, and may even coax you to see things from a completely new perspective.

I particularly loved his chapter that lists "Fashionable Films to Know." There's another chapter, right after it, called "Fictional Characters to Know (in Books You Should Read)." I am a sucker for these kinds of lists, because I love to see what other people enjoy - I might get an idea. In this case, I got lots of new ideas of classic books to read and classic films to see that somehow (no idea how) I missed.

"Classy" is billed as the perfect handbook for the very young woman of Gossip Girl age, but honestly, I feel this book is for anyone, including me. Here is the link to Amazon to get it. Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back with step-by-step instructions on how to download the application.

Example: Verizon customers are told to go to "Get it Now," then "Tools on the Go," then "Mind, Body & Soul," and then select Astrology Zone Premier. So, Verizon customers will have to actually exit the Text Message and go back into the menu on their phone. This is something that you, as a Verizon customer, have to do to get any application, so it's not a new process, and it's worth the effort!

AT&T and Sprint customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back that includes a link to the application. It is a more direct process than the one outlined above.

Not all phones are equipped to take the new technology, so check first with your provider and explain which phone you own. If you purchased a cell phone in the past year, chances are your phone is ready.

Every carrier sets their own rates, so check with your provider to find out what Astrology Zone Premier would cost for you.
